Primary Succession:
It is the sequence of communities that occupy an area following a disturbance such as fire.
Example: rock ~> lichen ~> moss ~> grass ~> shrub ~> trees ~> forest
Example: rock ~> lichen ~> moss ~> grass ~> shrub ~> trees ~> forest
Secondary Succession:
It is different from primary succession in that the soil
remains intact after the disturbance.
Example: grass ~> shrub ~> trees ~> forest
Example: grass ~> shrub ~> trees ~> forest
Human Impact:
Humans have done many things to affect this biome:
- Humans have brought in invasive species of animals and plant life.
- They have also destroyed the habitats of many animals and plants that live in this biome.
- Humans have polluted the water sources in this biome.
Biogeochemical Cycle:
The Nitrogen Cycle plays a big role in the TDF. 78% of the earth's atmosphere is made of Nitrogen. Bacteria is the key factor for this cycle. The bacteria converts nitrogen into ammonia for plants. The plants pass on the nitrates to consumers through the food web, and nitrogen is then returned to earth's atmosphere. Nitrogen creates amino acids that are turned into proteins. Proteins play a structure in DNA.
Future Predictions for Biome:
We predict that this biome will be around for a while and that it will thrive. We think that this biome will spread west into North America, and it will spread further throughout Asia, although we think that this biome will soon only exist north of the equator.
